We The People

We, the people of mixed heritage, the descendants of the First Nations of this land, are more than worthy. Yet we often live as though we are divided, turning on one another while others move forward in unity. The system was carefully built to keep us down, to make us doubt our worth and fight among ourselves. But history has shown that when we stand together — when we truly remember who we are — we are unstoppable.

This is our story — a story of trials, triumphs, and transformation. It’s a journey of endurance and courage, told through generations who refused to be broken. Within these words lies a testimony of pain and miracles, of people who rose from the ashes time and again, embracing vulnerability yet holding on to strength, faith, and love.

Our collective journey reflects the strength of the human spirit — a spirit that refuses to die. Through struggle and hardship, we’ve learned the meaning of unity, forgiveness, and perseverance. We’ve discovered that even in our darkest moments, hope is never lost. Every setback has become a lesson, every scar a reminder of our resilience.

This message is not only for our people but for anyone who has ever faced doubt, fear, or despair. It’s a reminder that we are never alone, that every struggle connects us through a shared thread of humanity. It calls on us to rise, to heal, and to build a future where our children know who they are and where they come from.

If you walk with me through this story, I hope you find inspiration to embrace your own journey — with all its highs and lows. Let my experiences, and the experiences of those before me, remind you that no matter what stands against us, we can still rise above it. There is beauty in our pain, strength in our vulnerability, and purpose in our survival.

But if we do not change, our legacy will fade. They will forget the wisdom of our elders and the strength of our women. They will forget the vision of our ancestors who once thrived on this land and the truth that our forefathers built the foundations others now walk upon. All that will remain in memory is the tragedy of our division — the way brothers turned against brothers on the battlegrounds of poverty and despair.

May we awaken before that day comes. May we realise that our purpose runs deeper than the chaos we inherited. Our history has been erased, our heroes silenced, and our culture demonised — yet the spirit of our people still breathes. It is time to remember who we are, to reclaim our identity, and to rise once more with pride and purpose.

Life's a grind, and the Cape Flats is where the strong are forged. It's where the pressure's on, and you either rise to the challenge or break under the weight. I was once on my knees, bleeding out, a
